In 1991, under the chairman ship of M Narasimham, the thirteenth Governor of the RBL, a Committee was set up for liberalisation of banking practices.“The model for ref orm measures suggested by the Committce was “Liberal sation, Privatisation and Glo balisation’. For reaching im pacts of such measures encouraged large number of foreign ban ks to come of India, With revolution in w rld class telecommunication, custo mers have been flooded with multifari us internet banking facilitie branchless banking. Actions were also initiated to provid e larger bouquet of banking products and some fee based services. This process is still evolving with more and morepositive changes. Such more or less the sce nario in many other develo ing countries. Hence the aut hors believe into be the rig ht time to examine, whether all banks in India can reduce dependence on interest earn ings and spread out more and more venues for service delivery.
